INTERMEDIATE HURLING MATCH - Lisdowney GAA hosted their first intermediate match on the pitch last Sunday morning. Freshford lined out against Urlingford in a thrilling first half, but Freshford broke away early in the second half leaving a full time score of 1:18 to 1:8 to our neighbours. A lot of hard work went on before the match preparing the grounds and Lisdowney GAA Committee wishes to thank all those who helped out over the past few weeks and also all those who gave up their time as stewards on the day. They also wish to thank those who allowed their fields to be used for parking.

UNDER 16 HURLING - The Under 16 hurling team faced Tullogher Rosbercon last Thursday in Lisdowney. The home side were missing three of their panel. For the first 20 minutes Tullogher were the dominant side, Their big midfielders were winning most of the ball and taking long range scores. About 20 minutes into the game Lisdowney reshuffled the line out swopping Brian Kavanagh and Dean McCann and Lisdowney started to crawl their way back into the game and, by half time, Lisdowney were ahead by 2:06 to 2:04. Lisdowney got into full form in the second half. They kept Tullogher scoreless from play while they totted up nine points themselves - Tullogher’s only two scores of the half coming from frees.

JUNIOR HURLING - The Junior team played Bennettsbridge in Lisdowney last Friday night. After only seven minutes, a neat flick from Kevin Sweeney followed three minutes later by a well-executed shot from Rory Hickey, saw Lisdowney take a five point lead. Although the remainder of the first half saw some pretty even play from both sides, a late goal from Ciaran Mackey left Lisdowney sitting comfortable on 3:4 to 8 points at the half. The second half was fairly low scoring to begin with only a point a piece for the first ten minutes, and the play this half was very broken - six of Lisdowney’s eight points came from frees while four of Bennettsbridge’s five scores were from frees. Final score 3:12 to 13 points for Lisdowney. For full match report check out . Team: Niall Grogan, Niall O’Hara, Shane Clyne, Niall Mackey, Ray Fitzpatrick, Pat O’Carroll, Sean Phelan, Paddy Bowden 0:1, Vinny Fitzpatrick 0:1, Eddie Hickey, Ciaran Mackey 1:0, Aaron Fogarty, Eoin Delahunty 0:2, Rory Hickey 1:8 (seven frees) and Kevin Sweeney 1:0.

Eimear Walsh opened the scoring early on with a good goal and a point before Dunamaggin got their only goal of the day. Eimear produced another goal and a point in that half. Again Lisdowney played very well in the second half. Eimear managed another two goals while Claire O’Carroll and Laura O’Sullivan both produced lovely points from play. Final score 4:3 to 1:0. As this is a twelve aside tournament, the team lined out with Rhea Grace Cashin, Mairead Kennedy, Ellen O’Carroll, Ashling Phelan, Emma McEvoy, Holly Moore, Chloe Mullins, Laura O’Sullivan, Eimear Walsh, Amy Dunphy, Emily Grogan and Claire O’Carroll. CAMOGIE FIRST ROUND MATCH - The Lisdowney Schools Camogie team played their first round match of the Roinn C (North group) in Lisdowney against Windhap on Tuesday, 17th April 2012. Lisdowney played against a very strong wind in the first half, but the backs were superb against the wind, holding Windgap scoreless and, in the second half with the wind, the forwards opened up the Windgap defence, scoring 3-03. Final score: Lisdowney 3-03; Windgap 0-0. On Tuesday, 24th April 2012, they travelled to play Johnstown where, once again, the backs were superb in the first half, holding Johnstown scoreless and, with the forwards scoring 2-01, the half time score was Lisdowney 2-01, Johnstown 0-00. The second hald was a story of the forwards missing too many chances and the backs taking their eyes off the ball and conceding two very soft goals, giving way to a very nervous last ten minutes.
