The Nixon on Watergate hosts the bash which has been titled Madonnarama. And for good reason as DJ Iano and DJ Anchor will be spinning the queen of pop’s greatest hits. Kick-off is at 8pm and details of this year’s festival, which runs from August 24-26, will be unveiled.
It’s Kilkenny’s third annual gay pride festival and it promises to be an even bigger, better and more diverse line-up than previous years.
Festival organiser Alan Slattery says: “I felt there were no gay events happening in Kilkenny that sustained any kind of momentum. Instead of standing by, I decided I wanted to organise an event that might become a focal point of Kilkennyʼs cultural calendar.”
Organised by a diverse team of volunteers, Out for the Weekend is an all-inclusive festival that caters for gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgendered and straight people from all walks of life.
The festival, growing from year to year, has been awarded financial assistance from The Community Foundation For Ireland and Kilkenny County Council but is still dependent on support from local businesses. Anyone interested in doing so can contact the team at email@example.com.
If you want to get more involved, Out for the Weekend is also looking for volunteers to work on this year’s event. Anyone interested can put themselves forward by contacting firstname.lastname@example.org.
For more details on the festival, keep an eye on the Kilkenny People in the coming weeks and see www.OUTForTheWeekend.ie You can also hook up with Out for the Weekend on Facebook and Twitter.
