Kilkenny County Council Arts Office has welcomed Lucy McKenna as its new artist-in-residence.
Lucy is a Kilkenny artist who works in drawing, photography, painting, video and installation. She graduated from NCAD in 2005 with a Joint Honours Degree in Woven Textiles and History of Art. In 2010 Lucy received an Arts Council of Ireland travel award to undertake a residency on Toronto Island, Canada.
The work she created there was in response to the island, its history and landscape and it further advanced her interests into developing her work in sculpture and installation. Lucy has exhibited widely, in Ireland and abroad, most recently showing ‘The Darker Wood’ during the Electric Picnic festival and the Kilkenny Arts Festival this year.
The Arts Office’s studio space is the ground floor area at 76 John Street, Kilkenny, a public space where the artists-in-residence also engage with the public.
During her residency here Lucy will focus much of her time on developing new sculptural installation work and a new body of work for a show with US artist Erica Harney in Brooklyn, New York in May 2012.
She also intends to explore site-specific drawing and to record an audio track for a near-completed video piece.
