Kilkenny secondary schools will do battle tonight (Wednesday) at the Watergate Theatre.

The grand finale of a talent competition will see representatives from 10 schools from across the city and county bid to be crowned champions. Participants hail from Kilkenny CBS, Loreto Secondary School, St Kieran’s College, Presentation Secondary School, Colaiste Pobail Osrai, Grennan College Thomastown, Castlecomer Community School, Scoil Airgeal Ballyhale, Colaist Mhuire Johnstown and Heywood Community School.

Winners will be declared in four categories of Best Female Singer, Best Male Singer, Best Band and Best Dance Act while there will an overall winner chosen from these.

Alan Hayes was the 2011 winner. The student of St Kieran’s College is well-known locally, having performed in a number of productions and annually singing The Rose of Mooncoin at the hurlers’ homecoming event after each All-Ireland senior hurling final.

MC for tonight’s event is Martin Bridgeman (KCLR) and judges are Aisling Hurley, John Walsh and Brendan Corcoran.

It all starts from 8pm. Tickets, €10/€5, are available from The Watergate Theatre on 056 7761674.

The competition is sponsored by Broderick’s Music and all proceeds go to The O’Neill Centre, Kilkenny.
