A KILKENNY butchers shopfront is the subject matter for a painting that is currently exhibiting at the Pittsburgh Centre for the Arts.
One of the exhibiting artists is William McAllistair whose works in the exhibition are based on a recent trip to Ireland.
Here, the impressions are not only of place, but of the total environment depicted, right down to the weather.
in his paring “Black & Whites - Kilkenny”, the exterior of a butcher shop, Whites family butchers is fleshed out in a cool colour palette that imbues the work with a certain atmosphere in which you can almost feel the cold, wet exterior of that day, in contrast to the very warm hues McAllistair employs to convey the inviting interior of the shop.
