THIRTY THREE students will exhibit their own works of art at a special end of year show at the Ormonde College next Monday evening.

The event which is organised by head of the art department, Vincent Andrews will show the works of students who have completed the Certificate Fine Art (Portfolio Preparation) course and the Advanced Certificate in Art and Business. Both courses are accredited by the Further Education and Training Awards Council.

“The FETAC 5 course is aimed at helping students to prepare their portfolio to gain a place in a third level art county. This year our students have applied to a number of colleges including Limerick and Dun Laoghire and last year one of our students went on to study in the National College of Art and Design. There are a lot of students who do the year-long portfolio preparation course, “ said Mr Andrews.

He explained that the FETAC Level 6 Advanced Certificate in Art and Business is considered the equivalent of completing first year in art college. “A lot of people choose this option for a mulitude of reasons. We have also incorporated a business element into the course which shows students how to sell themselves as professional artists.

“Every year we hold an exhibition as part of the course. Not everyone will go onto third level education so this course gives people the equipment that they need to make it out in the real world,” he said.

Mr Andrews added that the show at 6.30pm on May 28 is open to the public. “It is only right that the students themselves get some recognition and appreciation for all the work done throughout the year. This is the first time in a few years that we have actually openned the studio to the public at the end of the year, so we are delighted to be able to celebrate all the work done,” he said.

Students participating in the show are Level 5 students Rebecca Bambrick, Sarah Bambrick, Katie Brennan, Bradley Clancy, Lisa Comerford, Fernando Da Silva, Billy Doran, Jessica Dowling, Michael Dunne, Lauren Herbert, Chelsea Holden, Sebastian Madaj, Casey Jane Murphy, Rachel Neary, Natasha Shakespeare and Luke West. Level 6 students are John Brennan, Martin Byrne, Brendan Cahill, Julie Cleere, Ellen Considine, Tom Cranny, Joanna Futera, Maria Griffith, Joe Holohan, Martin Kavanagh, Lisa Lawton, Agnieszka Lech, Philomena Lyttleton, Rosemarie Malone, Nathan Moran, Brenda O’Brien and David Ryan.
