International Womens Day was marked in Kilkenny with a lovely event at Butler Gallery.

In conjunction with Rotary Kilkenny, Butler Gallery recognised the very special role of Susan Margaret Butler in the history of the Gallery. Peggy, as she was popularly known, was a founding member and a driving force behind the management of the Kilkenny Art Gallery Society. She steadfastly steered the gallery through its early years, using her wit and artistic training. Kilkenny Art Gallery Society was renamed Butler Gallery in her honour in the 1970s upon moving into Kilkenny Castle, which was home to Butler Gallery until the Gallery relocated to Evans' Home in 2020.

Anna O'Sullivan, Exhibition Curator and Director of Butler Gallery, was joined by Suzanna Crampton, granddaughter of Peggy Butler, for an insight into her life and her dedication to the arts.
