A new chapter for Kilkenny's Open Circle Women’s Art Collective

Community Development Worker with Open Circle, Ita Morrissey who took up the role last month

After many great years of service to Open Circle Women’s Art Collective Sheila Jordan has handed over the co-ordinator baton to Ita Morrissey who will take up the role of development worker with the popular Kilkenny group.

Established in 2013 Open Circle’s aim is to make the arts available and accessible to women of all ages and from all walks of life, it is a collective that encourages and supports women to be involved in the arts in a safe and uplifting way.

The collective does this by providing programmes that provide high quality arts learning experiences while inspiring collaborative arts engagements.

A creative home

“Sheila has brought so much to the collective and really made it a creative home to so many women throughout Kilkenny. Co-ordinating and collaborating with countless talented and skilled artists and facilitators to ensure the artistic integrity and quality to all of the programmes Open Circle organised. Her contribution has been priceless. On behalf of the board and everyone involved we wish her all the best in her own practice and future creative endeavours.” said Ita who started in her new role last month.

Ita has a wealth of experience in creating community engaged creative projects.

“Creativity and collaboration is something I am very passionate about and I am excited to serve Open Circle in it’s growth, creating even more uplifting and engaging programmes for all women in Kilkenny,” she said.
summer gathering

To mark this transition Open Circle in collaboration with Rothe House are offering a ‘Creative Summer Gathering’ where women throughout the county of Kilkenny are invited, members new and old, to reconnect and create a piece of art inspired by the blossoming gardens.

“This gathering will be an opportunity to meet new faces, reconnect with familiar ones and get creative once again.

“We will have news about our September programme that I am happy to share and most of all we will be getting our hands and hearts busy with making,” added Ita.

All welcome

No previous skills or experience are required. All are welcome. The gathering will take place on July 22 at 11am at Rothe House and booking is essential.
