History comes to life at Kilkenny Heritage Week production

History comes to life at Kilkenny Heritage Week production

‘Brave Bones’, a film which tells the story of the old Deerpark Mine in Castlecomer, will be shown in Butler Gallery on Thursday August 17 at 6.30pm as part of Kilkenny Heritage Week.

Created by Sarah Lincoln and Clogh-based write Willie-Joe Meally, the 15 minute production features the depiction of the drawing of a map of the underground workings of the mine by two ex-coalminers Timmy Wilson and Jimmy Carroll.

Both creators subsequently have used the map to trace the route of these tunnels above ground in an attempt to animate the local landscape and keep the stories of the mine alive.

The film is a creative drift through these stories, using poems, film footage and still images.

The event is free but those attending are asked to book their tickets in advance on www.butlergallery.ie
