Kilkenny radio DJ in the running for Hot Press award

Kilkenny DJ in the running for Hot Press award

Martin Bridgeman is well known on the airwaves for his show Ceol Anocht PICTURE: DYLAN VAUGHAN

Martin has been a broadcaster for almost 20 years and is a well known and respected member of the arts and music community in Kilkenny, involved in festivals, most recent on Kilkenny TradFest.

This is not Martin’s first nomination. He has been nominated in Hot Press each of the last few years, in a panel that includes many national broadcasters. He was recently shortlisted for an IMRO radio award and was recognised in 2022 for his Irish language shows by An Oireachtas.

As well as his direct radio on-air work, he produced a well-received, five part documentary series on the Castlecomer Coalmine and is working on a number of podcasts, bringing his story telling skills that began in KCLR in 2005 when he hosted the “People In Profile” show.

Martin is naturally delighted by this latest development:

“I do my best to bring the best of new Irish music to listeners on my shows over the years on KCLR, more recently, in the Irish language. What’s especially pleasing is that this nomination is made by the public or by artists.

“Naturally, I am humbled and grateful for this recognition. It’s recognising the work that KCLR does too, in the promotion of Irish music. There’s so much great Irish music out there and it’s a pleasure to be part of it. The only downside is that the awards are apparently called “The Hotties”, so you could imagine the slagging inside KCLR. But, seriously, it’s such a nice thing for someone to do, so I want say thanks by mentioning it. Voting is still open!"

Martin’s show, Ceol Anocht, broadcasts each week on Tuesday and Thursday and you can catch up on www.kclr96fm.com

To vote go to hotpress.com and check out the shortlist and get voting. Winners will be announced next week.
