Writer, Fern Kealy who is taking part in the event
Local theatre enthusiasts are in for a treat with an upcoming 24-Hour Theatre Takeover at The Watergate Theatre.
In this thrilling spectacle, writer Gillian Grattan has assembled a talented team of local playwrights, directors, and actors who will race against the clock to create, rehearse, and stage a series of original short plays—all within a single day.
Starting at 8pm on Friday, July 19, writers will burn the midnight oil crafting scripts until 4am. The following morning, directors and actors will dive into intense rehearsals, while the stage is set for an unforgettable performance of six new original short plays. The event will culminate in a live show at 8pm on Saturday, July 20, where audiences will witness the raw power of creativity and the magic of live theatre.
Event organisers are still looking for passionate writers, directors, and actors to join this unique celebration of artistic talent and community spirit.
Proceeds from the event will support two vital local organisations. Cois Nore and Teac Tom.
A series of workshops by writer Gillian Grattan and performer Susie Lamb will also take place at Barnstorm studio on John’s Quay on Sunday from June 30 to Sunday, July 28 from 6 to 8.30pm. This 5-week, fun-filled workshop will dive into playwriting with Gillian Grattan and performance tips from Susie Lamb. Perfect for all skill levels and will explore love in theatre, script development, and finish with a live reading!
