Criple Billy is performed by Seán Hackett
A stellar cast of local actors will take to the stage next month in the Watergate Collective’s production of The Criple of Inishmaan.
In February, Watergate Theatre announced Watergate Players Collective. This new initiative brings together theatre lovers and players from throughout Kilkenny City and county. The Cripple ofInishmaan by Martin McDonagh was announced as the first Watergate Players Collective production and is directed by Donal Gallagher.
Set on a remote island off the west coast of Ireland in 1934, Martin McDonagh’s hit play is a strange comic tale in the great tradition of Irish storytelling. As word arrives on Inishmaan that the Hollywood director Robert Flaherty is coming to the neighbouring island of Inishmore to film Man of Aran, the one person who wants to be in the film more than anybody is young Cripple Billy, if only to break away from the bitter tedium of his daily life.
The cast includes a number of well known local actors including Sean Hackett, Paula Drohan, Liane Murphy, Michael Somers, Kevin Tynan, Megan Kelly, Paul Behan, Katherine Dee and Derek Dooley. The creative team also includes Gerry Taylor (lighting designer) and John O’ Donoghue (set design).
The Criple of Inishmaan runs at the Watergate Theatre in Kilkenny from September 19 to 21. Tickets are €18 and €12 and group rates are available.
Tickets on sale from watergatetheatre.com or through the box office on (056) 7761674.
