This year, students of CBS Kilkenny and Loreto Kilkenny are staging Shrek The Musical, a vibrant production based on the beloved Dreamworks film.

When an ogre’s peaceful swamp life is disrupted, he embarks on an unexpected journey with his loyal, talkative donkey companion. Together, they set out to rescue Princess Fiona, whose secret adds a surprising twist to the story.

Featuring unforgettable songs, colorful characters, and plenty of laughs, Shrek the Musical delivers an uplifting message that true beauty lies within. Perfect for the whole family, this enchanting production will leave you cheering for the underdog and celebrating friendship in all its forms.

This is the first time that Shrek has been staged in Kilkenny but according to the show's director Niamh Dooley, the students of CBS and Loreto love a challenge. There are over 100 students involved in the cast and backstage crew.

Working alongside Niamh in the production team are Mandy Dowling and Lorraine Maher as muscal directors, Sarah Somers and Rachel Leydon as assistant musical directors, and Michele Wise as choreographer. The team have collaborated on various school productions in the past.

The show will be held in the Watergate Theatre and will run from Thursday, January 30 to Sunday, February 2. Due to the popularity of the musical amongst younger generations, there will be an extra matinée performance on Sunday, February 2. This performance will be aimed at families with younger children. Tickets are on sale from the Watergate Theatre; Friday's show has sold out.
