Folk singer-songwriter Mick Citern Walsh has recently unveiled the title of his forthcoming new single, The Old Lady With The Yellow Hat, which is set for general release later this month.

The heartfelt composition adds to Walsh’s extensive repertoire of self-penned songs, and will be serviced to radio ahead of becoming available on all platforms from February 21.

Over the past few years, the local musician has garnered a loyal online following by sharing his music through weekly Facebook Live sessions, amassing a dedicated following from around the globe.

These performances have introduced audiences to many of the original tracks which have contributed to Walsh’s continually growing songbook and have become part of his repertoire as a recording artist, all of which also reflect his deep connection to Irish folk traditions.

Evidence of the strength of Walsh's connection to the music he writes and performs can be seen in the fact that his YouTube channel is closing in on celebrating connecting with 100,000 followers.

Mick’s musical journey is marked by his versatility with various instruments, including the 10-string cittern, tenor banjo, mandolin, and 12-string guitar. His passion for Irish folk songs is evident in every performance, as he seamlessly blends traditional melodies with his own unique style.

Mick recently shared some insights into the creation of The Old Lady With The Yellow Hat, one of which was the revelation that he wrote the song in January. In 2024, Mick released the single Our Golden Days Our Happiest Days, while 2023 saw the Kilkenny-based songsmith share the songs Picture The Whistling Of The Wind, Tory Island I Will Return, Scaip Fuil mo Chomràidì sa Feabhra, and Dublin City That Old Man Is Me.
