Barn Owl Productions takes flight in Kilkenny

A bold reimagining of the much- loved and long-established Barn Owl Players, has officially launched in Kilkenny, ushering in a fresh era of theatrical excellence and creative exploration.

With deep roots in the local arts community and a legacy of engaging performances, Barn Owl  Productions emerges as a revitalised and dynamic theatre group poised to deliver high-quality, thought-provoking, and artistically ambitious work.

Building on the proud tradition of the Barn Owl Players, this new venture will operate on a production-
by-production basis - giving each show the time, attention, and bespoke energy it deserves.

The early 2025 production of The McGowan Trilogy by Seamus Scanlon was more than a breakout hit—it was the catalyst for something bigger. The success of the play became the launchpad for Barn Owl Productions, marking the bold evolution from a passionate theatre group into a dynamic creative force.

"We're incredibly excited to announce the launch of Barn Owl Productions; says the
newly appointed Artistic Director, Philip Hardy.

"This is not just a name change. It's a rebirth — a chance to breathe new life into our theatre practice and embrace a more flexible, collaborative, and imaginative approach to staging live performance in
Kilkenny.

The group is now turning its gaze toward 2026, with plans already in motion for an eclectic and bold season of productions. From contemporary drama to reimagined classics, the new programme promises to offer something for everyone - audiences and artists alike.

Barn Owl Productions will soon unveil its complete 2026 programme, with titles, dates, venues, and audition information to be announced in the coming weeks. Each production will be cast and crewed independently, offering new and returning members the opportunity to engage with the work that excites them most.

"We're throwing open the doors, says Cara O’Doherty.

"Whether you are an actor, director, designer, stage manager, technician, or someone who just loves being part of the magic backstage - this is your invitation. We want to build a community of
passionate, talented people who are excited to make great theatre together."

At the heart of Barn Owl Productions is a commitment to community collaboration and artistic ambition. Each show will provide an opportunity to assemble a unique team of creatives, both seasoned and new, to craft a one-of-a-kind production from the ground up.
