The Watergate Theatre in Kilkenny
Artists and creative teams from all disciplines based in Kilkenny are being encouraged to apply for an upcoming artist in residence at the Watergate Theatre.
The callout is directed at artists specialising in performance, theatre, dance, music and interdisciplinary practice. The residency which runs from 2026 to 2028 supports the development of new work, fosters creative exploration, and connects with our vibrant Kilkenny community.
At the heart of the Watergate Theatre Residency is a commitment to collaboration and community connection, artist care and support, inclusivity and accessibility, transparency and flexibility and open dialogue.
According to a spokesperson the residencies are 'designed to provide time, space, and resources for artists to experiment, collaborate, and create'. Previous residencies have included support for development of new work in progress, community engagement and production.
The residency offers possible development space at the Watergate Theatre, an annual stipend, technical and administrative support from the Watergate team, opportunities to share work-in-progress with local audiences, support in connecting with local communities and networks and a flexible, artist-led approach
Applications are welcomed from individual artists, collectives, and companies working in any performing art form. Applicants must be based in Kilkenny.
