Subtitle returns to light up Kilkenny

Subtitle Film Festival will run from November 23 to 29

Kilkenny will once again become Ireland’s capital of European cinema this November as the Subtitle European Film Festival returns for its 13th edition.

Running from November 23 to 29, the festival will transform the city’s favourite venues—The Set Theatre, Watergate Theatre, Cleere’s, and Billy Byrnes—into a week-long celebration of world-class film, conversation, and discovery.

Renowned for bringing the best of non-English-language cinema to Irish audiences, Subtitle continues to uncover extraordinary stories and performances that might otherwise never reach local screens. This year’s programme features Irish premieres of acclaimed titles including Our Girls, Weightless, and My Eternal Summer, alongside audience favourites Amélie, A Man Called Ove, and The Intouchables.

A special retrospective, Mad About Moodysson, will celebrate the Swedish filmmaker Lukas Moodysson—whose Together, We Are the Best! and Lilya 4-ever capture the chaos, humour and tenderness of modern life.

Festival Co-director Richard Cook says that while Subtitle continues to grow internationally, Kilkenny remains at its heart:

“Subtitle has always been about discovery—finding films and performances that make you feel something fresh, surprising, and deeply human. Kilkenny’s audiences are curious, open and warm, and that makes the city the perfect home for a festival like this.”

Alongside screenings, visitors can look forward to seeing many of the actors, visiting filmmakers, and the much-loved Angela Awards on Saturday 29 November at The Set Theatre, honouring outstanding European performances.

Tickets range from €10 to €16 (plus booking fee), with full details and day-by-day schedules available now at www.subtitlefest.com.
