Attendees at the launch of Meet the Follicles PICTURE: Vicky comerford
Kilkenny poet Ciara Foskin launched her collection, Meet the Follicles, at the Book Centre earlier this month.
The collection is a brave and bold piece of writing and gives the reader insight into the challenges that one faces when they learn they have to navigate living with a cancer diagnosis.
Ciara was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2024 and her life changed as she tapped into her resilience and learned a new way of living.
Scattered throughout the collection are words of wisdom and solace as Ciara shares the impact that her cancer diagnosis and treatment had on her.
“I’ve learned that you can plan for the future, but in an instant everything can change. We can plan all we want but nothing is guaranteed,” she said.
The writer also shares her ‘dos and don’ts for cancer support’ which offers practical advice on how to support someone who is living with a cancer diagnosis. Ciara’s poetry is also accompanied by a notes section which gives further insight into her work.
Meet the Follicles is available at The Book Centre.
