Subtitle Film Festival kicks off this weekend in Kilkenny

Laura Berlin, star of the hit Netflix series The Empress will be in Kilkenny for Subtitle

Kilkenny will welcome a remarkable lineup of European film stars this week as part of this year’s Subtitle European Film Festival.

Danish actor Claes Bang — best known for his breakout role in the Palme d’Or–winning The Square and Dracula on Netflix — will be in town to present his new film The Great Arch. Also attending is acclaimed Polish actor Marcin Dorociński, who appeared in the latest Mission: Impossible film opposite Tom Cruise and will soon be seen in a major new Ryan Reynolds feature.

They’ll be joined by leading Norwegian actor Kristoffer Joner (The RevenantThe Wave) and Czech star Aňa Geislerová, one of Central Europe’s most celebrated screen performers. Other major names include Finnish actor Jasper Pääkkönen (VikingsBlacKkKlansman), rising Dutch talent Josha Stradowski from Amazon’s The Wheel of Time, Romanian screen legend Vlad Ivanov, and Laura Berlin, star of the hit Netflix series The Empress. With so many visiting actors, Subtitle continues its tradition of bringing world-class European talent directly to Kilkenny audiences.

Subtitle kicks off this Sunday, 23rd November, and runs all week at the Watergate Theatre, Set Theatre, Billy Byrne’s and Cleere’s. With tickets from just €10, it’s the perfect chance to dive into a brilliant week of European cinema — including gripping dramas, smart comedies and hidden gems you won’t find anywhere else.
