Mags Whitley and Paula Drohan in Sive at the Watergate PICTURE: Céire Hoey
Following a highly successful run at the Watergate Theatre at the end of November, audiences gave an enthusiastic response to Barnstorm Theatre Company’s recent production of Sive by John B. Keane.
Audiences were thrilled by the production’s overall quality, with praise for the exceptional work of the set, costume, lighting, music, and backstage teams whose craft brought Keane’s world vividly to life.
Under the direction of Philip Hardy, the ensemble delivered performances that resonated strongly with theatre-goers. Megan Kelly gave a sensitive and perceptive portrayal of the innocent title character, while Paula Drohan brought a compelling hardness and complexity to Mena. Mags Whitely, a beloved figure in the local theatre community, offered a steadfast and memorable performance as Nanna, grounding the drama with her signature presence.
The cast was further strengthened by the fine work of John Prendergast, Eoin Nangle Ryan, and John Whitely, each contributing depth to the production. A particularly enjoyable dynamic came from Jim Carroll and Ben Nunan, whose father-and-son partnership brought texture and charm to the roles of the ‘tinker poets’ Pats Bocock and Carthalawn. Owen Finnegan delivered a passionate and engaging performance as Sive’s young love, adding emotional urgency to the story.
