Shrughawadda Players will proudly present the famous Irish play `The Field` by J.B.Keane in St Eoghan`s Centre, Kilmoganny later month.
The group of stalwart local actors will bring the iconic play to life on the stage from next Wednesday (February 11) to Saturday (February 14) at 8pm nightly.
This is a compelling and masterful piece of writing by J.B. Keane.
Set in the west of Ireland in the 1960s ,the play explores themes of land ownership, legacy, pride in place and identity through the figure of the ‘Bull McCabe’ played masterfully by Pete Dunne.
For Bull, the land is more than property - i t is memory ,history and survival itself especially after centuries of dispossession under British rule.

The play tells the powerful story of Bull McCabe who was a farmer and more than anything,he needed a piece of land that would give him access to water for his cattle.
Maggie Butler,an elderly widow owns the land that the Bull has rented for grazing and is nowputting it up for sale to the highest bidder.
Bull is enraged and this leads to a violent conflict culminating in murder as he fights to keep his perceived inheritance against outsiders.
On this the 20th anniversary of the formation of the Shrughawadda Players, set up in 2005 by the late Michael Dowling, director Alycia Kearney welcomes audiences to this production of J.B.Keane's masterpiece and hopes that they will all enjoy her interpretation of the play and its many characters.
The cast consists of Bull McCabe (Pete Dunne), Bird O’Donnell (Andrew O’Neill), Mick Flanagan (Stephen Gilmore), Mamie (Aoife O’Neill), William Dee (Bobby Murray), Sergeant Leahy (Willie Kearney),Fr. Murphy (Robert Little), Leamy (Max Kirwan) ,Tadgh (Oran Alyward), Maggie Butler (Biddy Hawe),Dandy (Gerry Carroll) and Mrs McCabe (Claire O’Neill.
