The Medieval Mile returns to Kilkenny on December 5
Kilkenny’s most atmospheric festive tradition is back as the Medieval Mile Race returns on Friday, December 5.
Hosted by Kilkenny City Harriers, in partnership with Yulefest Kilkenny, this fast, fun, and family-friendly race invites runners of all ages to lace up and experience a truly unforgettable dash through the heart of medieval Kilkenny. With a start time of 7.30pm, the Mile is one of the city’s most cherished community events,
Starting at James Stephens Barracks, the race finishes on the Parade where there will be music and refreshments.
The Medieval Mile course is renowned for its fast route, making it perfect for seasoned athletes chasing winter PBs and families eager to soak up the festive spirit together.

Each year, hundreds of participants - young and old, competitive and casual - take part in this enchanting evening run, and 2025 promises to be the most delightful edition yet.
Participation is confined to those registered. People can register at popupraces.ie - entry fee is €21.30 (including fees) with timed/t-shirted entry or free (no t-shirt/not timed) on a first come, first served basis.
The run-up to Christmas provides the perfect backdrop, with Yulefest’s festive installations, and seasonal decorations adding magic along the way. Spectators are encouraged to line the route, offer encouragement and share in the atmosphere that has made the race a highlight of the city’s holiday calendar.
