UPDATE: 38 jobs impacted as SuperValu makes 'difficult decision' to close store in Kilkenny

SuperValu have confirmed to The Kilkenny People that 'the difficult decision has been made to close its store in Market Cross Shopping Centre in Kilkenny City'.

The store currently employs 38 people and the staff in the store were advised of the decision on October 17.

According to the retailer, 'the decision to close the store was taken after every option to address the long-term viability of the store was considered but to no avail'.

"Increased trading challenges have contributed to significant losses for the store over a number of years," they added.

"We will now enter a 30-day consultation period with the Unions and colleagues.

"We will provide outplacement support to assist the colleagues in finding alternative employment."

SuperValu Market Cross will continue to operate business as usual over the coming weeks, with the store closing on November 25, 2023.
