Planning permission sought to extend The Avalon House Hotel in Kilkenny

Planning permission has been put forward to Kilkenny County Council for the expansion and renovation of two townhouses to become guest accommodation for The Avalon House Hotel in Kilkenny.

The changes would include renovations and extensions of the 'Nurse's Cottage' located at 20 The Square in Castlecomer and also 18 High Street, The Square, Castlecomer, to create  guest bedroom Townhouse accommodation for The Avalon House Hotel, along with all associated site and development works.

Both are situated next to the hotel.

The Avalon House Hotel is listed on the Record of Protected Structures for Kilkenny and on the NIAH Register.

The Nurse’s Cottage is also listed on the Record of Protected Structures for Kilkenny and on the NIAH Register along with No. 18 High Street that is also listed on the Record of Protected Structures for Kilkenny and on the NIAH Register.

The development site lies within the area of Archaeological Protection and within the Architectural Conservation Area for Castlecomer as defined in the Kilkenny County Council Development Plan.

The site is within the Zone of Archaeological Potential for Castlecomer as identified on the Urban Archaeological Survey for County Kilkenny.

Permission was put forward on August 6, 2024 and submissions from the public can be made to the local authority up to September 9, with a decision due on September 30.
