After 40 years in local business, iconic Kilkenny meat trader, Kearns Family Butchers have confirmed 'with a heavy heart' they will close for the final time on Saturday, February 15.
"It is with a heavy heart that we share the news that, after 40 wonderful years in business, we will be closing our doors for the final time on Saturday the 15th of February," the Kearns family posted to social media.
"This decision has not been an easy one, but we take comfort in knowing that we have had the privilege of serving such an incredible community. Over the years, we have built more than just a business – it has been part of the community, full of friendships, conversations and memories.

"We want to extend our deepest gratitude to our loyal customers, too many to name, who have supported Richie and the family over the past 40 years. Your kindness, loyalty, and friendship have meant more to us than words can say," the family said.
"We also want to sincerely thank you for your prayers, Mass cards, messages, and support throughout this past year, during some of the most challenging times we’ve faced. Your thoughtfulness and compassion have been a true comfort to us during this time."
"We will miss the friendly smiles, daily chats, the laughs shared, the match analysis and the waves as people passed by the butchers. These simple moments have brought so much joy over the years," the post added.
