The first of the Newborn Baby Grant payments are expected to be made today, with over 4,400 families due to receive the payment for 4,522 children.
The €280 grant will be payable with the first month of Child Benefit, and applies to all children born on or after 1st December 2024 and who qualify for Child Benefit. All of the parents have been advised of the payment of the new grant.
In a full year it is expected that Newborn Baby Grants will be paid in respect of 54,000 children at a cost of €15 million.
Welcoming the news, Carlow-Kilkenny TD John McGuinness said, “this is a step in the right direction and very positive news for young families throughout the country.
"From March, eligible parents will receive the Newborn Baby Grant in addition to the first month’s Child Benefit payment.
