A women's fashion outlet has appeared to remove any references to its local shop closing down from a 'closing down sale' it has been holding for a number of months now.
Located at 5 Kieran Street in Kilkenny, Sally West erected large posters in March announcing the store was closing down, and holding a 'closing down sale' as a result. No end or date of closure was put forward.
As the months went by, another retailer on the street questioned the sale, saying its protracted nature was having a detrimental effect on other businesses in the area. Catherine O’Dwyer of Lux Boutique said the timeframe seemed interminable, and deliveries of stock were still arriving regularly.
“Stock is arriving every day with delivery drivers. There were 23 boxes there on Friday,” she claimed back in May.

“It’s taking all the money from the street. We all need to know how we are going to run our business while they’re doing this.
Ms O’Dwyer said some of the other businesses are ‘on their knees’: “I think it’s very unfair to conduct a business with this closing down sale sign on it, because people think it’s imminent,” she said.
Following enquiries from the Kilkenny People in June, a shop spokesperson in Sally West Kilkenny said: 'we’re just playing it week by week'.
They said they were hoping to stay in operation deep into the summer with the high cost of running a local business proving difficult over recent months: "We had a very tough year but the reaction has been phenomenal and people are sorry to see us go. They have been very nice and supportive," they said.
Now, in recent weeks, the original 'Sally West is Closing Down - Everything Must Go' sale sign has been replaced by a 'The Big Sale - Everything Must Go' sign. It remains to be seen if there is an update on the shop's future.
