Michael Rossiter
Well known local business Rossiter Shoe Repairs and Pedorthics, based on the Butterslip in Kilkenny City has announced it will close its doors for the final time later this year in a blow to local shoppers.
The business has been in operation for 38 years but it has been confirmed 2025 will be its last in store before moving online.
"I’ve been having round table talks at home for about two years," Michael Rossiter told the Kilkenny People, revealing after mulling over it for a period, a decision was reached last August.

"It is a relief and that’s one hurdle over. Now I’m going to have a hurdle every single day because the amount of people that are coming in and offering me goodwill is absolutely tremendous," he said.
It may not be the end but the news certainly marks a major transition in a storied career, since the store first opened in May 1988 at the old arcade, before moving to what has now become home.
Now in 2025 and despite many years of service to the people of Kilkenny, few have followed in Michael’s footsteps, meaning his city store has become an invaluable asset to the local community as the trade faces an uncertain future.
"There is about between 25 and 30 cobblers in the country," he outlined, believing better structures need to be put in place for the future of the trade.
However on a personal level, Michael hopes his new journey will be equally as enjoyable.
"We’re hoping that online there will be a need to get up every morning and fulfil those orders. There’s also things I want to do with my sons. I want to give them a little bit of mentoring through little projects that they are going through so no, Michael Rossiter ain’t gone, he’ll still be around," he continued.
"It’s part two. I’m not going to be a daytime TV fella. There will be a need to get up every day,” he said, revealing he’s looking forward to working on an exciting project with his son with details expected very soon...
