The IASE National Mentor of the Year award was presented to Glanbia, Kilkenny’s human resources manager Jean O’Keeffe at the 4th annual IASE National Best Practice in Supported Employment Awards.
Jean is an active advocate of supported employment and through her HR role has recruited three people with disabilities and provided them with support, advice and guidance to settle into their work and ensuring that the placements are successful for both the company and the employees. Jean was delighted to accept the award on Glanbia’s behalf.
Pamela Mansell (Access co-ordinator) was also thrilled that a Kilkenny employer had received this award. “Through everyone in Glanbia these employees have been offered not only the opportunity to work but also an environment that promotes social integration and inclusion for all,” she said.
Also this year, two of the Kilkenny Access participants received plaques from Social Protection Minister Joan Burton as they were shortlisted for the Employee of the Year award: Jimmy Renehan of Glanbia Ballyragget and Merrie Bergin of Café Sol.
The awards pay tribute to individuals and organisations in recognition of their contribution in making equal employment opportunities a reality for people with a disability in Ireland.
