Another 6,000 free part-time higher education places are being made available to provide re-training opportunities for jobseekers, Fine Gael TD, John Paul Phelan, has confirmed.
The third Springboard allocation announced by the Minister for Education and Skills, Ruairí Quinn T.D, includes over 100 places on a range of programmes at both Waterford Institute of Technology and the Institute of Technology Carlow which are ideal for candidates in the region anxious to upskill.
“Over 200 Springboard courses will be provided at 38 Institutes of Technology, Universities and privately-run higher education colleges across Ireland for individuals to acquire new skills that are in demand in the economy. A range of programmes are available locally both at Waterford Institute of Technology and the Institute of Technology in Carlow.
“The courses, available across the country, will focus on growth areas such as Information Technology, Communication, International Languages and International Financial Services. Programmes will also be available to acquire qualifications in areas such as Six Sigma, international selling, business start-up and entrepreneurship skills,” Deputy Phelan said.

An MSc in Business, Innovation, Technology and Entrepreneurship (Level 9) at WIT with 20 places A Postgrad Diploma in Business (Lean Practice) at WIT (Level 9) with 25 places A Higher Diploma in Business (Supply Chain Management) at IT Carlow. The Level 8 programme has 30 places A Certificate in Science (Big Data Analysis) Level 8 programme in Carlow with 10 places and
A Higher Diploma in Digital Media Design Level 8 programme also in Carlow with 20 places. Minister Quinn said: “Springboard is
