Former TD and MEP Pat Cox will be in Kilkenny next week, to speak at an event organised by the Alliance Française.
Mr Cox will give a talk entitled ‘La crise économique Européenne: Contexte, consensus, contestation’ (the European Economic Crisis: Context, consensus and conflict) in the Club House Hotel on Patrick Street at 8pm next Tuesday, March 13. As the title suggests, the talk will look at the issues that led to the current economic crisis in Europe and what future outcomes are likely from the current situation.
The Irish politician is in an excellent position to see how it came about and how it might unfold, having been an Economics lecturer, presenter on RTE, TD, then MEP, and then President of the European Parliament. Currently, he is serving on a number of European Institutions and narrowly missed out on getting the Fine Gael nomination for the Presidency in 2011. He is also President of the Alliance Française in Dublin.
With the new referendum forthcoming, this talk is sure to be of interest. Places are limited, and the address will be given in French with no subtitles or simultaneous translation, although Mr Cox will answer questions in English or French.
This event is part of the cultural programme of the Alliance Française of Kilkenny, and promises to be a most stimulating and interesting evening.
