There are now more than 200 Ukrainian people living in the Callan Thomastown municipal district, local councillors have been told.
District Manager, Fiona Deegan, updated local councillors at their recent monthly meeting.
She told them that this welcome is being reflected in the new Community Recognition Fund.
Funding under the scheme is specifically targeted at projects that are located in communities, towns and villages that are hosting the beneficiaries of Temporary Protection and/or International Protection Applicants. The Fund aims to support the development of facilities that will be used in the future by all members of the community.
She said a call for projects had been made earlier this year, and they are currently being evaluated. They will then be submitted to the Department of Rural and Community Development.
Funding will be based on the number of new arrivals in a community.
Ms Deegan said she hopes to have news on the projects for the April meeting of Callan Thomastown Municipal District councillors.
