Callan pedestrian crossing work to begin

Pedestrian crossing

Work is due to start on new pedestrian crossings in Callan

The first phase of an Active Travel project on Bridge Street in Callan is set to begin before the end of this year.

Contractors have been appointed for the first works, which will be to install pedestrian crossings at either end of the street.
Local councillors have been told that the provisional start date is early October.

Work will start with the pedestrian crossing at the Flaggy Lane end of Bridge Street, and then will move up to the junction of West Street/ Mill Street/ Green Street for pedestrian crossing work at that end of Bridge Street.

The crossings are all that are planned for this year under the project, approved by the National Transport Authority.
Cllr Joe Lyons said he hopes the rest of the Bridge Street project will go ahead next year as there was a lot of disappointment this year that the full project was delayed.
