Pedestrian crossing
Contractors engaged to install pedestrian crossings on Bridge Street in Callan are ‘ready to go,’ local councillors have been told.
The crossings are being constructed under the Active Travel Scheme.
Area engineer, Declan Murphy, told the recent meeting of Callan Thomastown Municipal District Councillors that work on the first phase of the work, on Lower Bridge Street, is due to start on October 23.
Cllr Joe Lyons said the crossings are badly needed and asked if the contractors will go straight from Lower Bridge Street to the Mills Street/ Bridge Street junction works when phase one is completed.
Mr Murphy said that was the plan, and the contractor hopes to a lot of the work done by Christmas.
