You would think after 46 years, the games would wane a bit, or the following numbers would decline, but not out in Coolagh - whether it’s the open cheery fire burning brightly or the tea and sandwiches by the Ladies Committee are the attraction, it is still as strong today as ever.
When Billy decided to step down after more than four decades, the mantle was handed to Garryricken man, John Corrigan who blended in seamlessly in the running and organising of the great game.
In recent times, where you might think the game could decline and disappear altogether with the advent of so many more modes of electronic entertainment, there were many requests to hold a card school in Coolagh, which surprisingly came from mostly younger people.
The Pattern Committee decided to give it a go and advertised a six week winter card school for beginners/ improvers. They’re delighted that it has been a full house every week, with so many people eager to learn the fantastic game.
Tutor John Corrigan said he is delighted to see so many young people getting involved and such interest in the game.
The future looks good and Coolagh Hall, with its proud and varied past, will have a positive and vibrant future.
