John Mackey RIP
A proud Kilkenny man who was tragically killed in London is to make his final journey to be laid to rest in his native Callan.
John Mackey (87) died in hospital two days after the incident as he walked home from the shops, in the Finsbury Park area of London, last May. He had gone out to get the newspaper and buy some groceries but was left with multiple injuries, including broken ribs and a bleed to his brain. A man has been charged in relation to the fatal incident.
Investigating police said Mr Mackey was an innocent member of the public and was walking back home after running errands when he was made a victim.

“His family will join John on one final trip back to Ireland where he’ll be laid to rest,” Detective Chief Inspector Mark Rogers, who is leading the investigation, confirmed.
Originally from Mellowes Park in Callan, John moved to London in the 1950s but remained a proud Irishman all his life, so it is fitting his family are bringing him home for his funeral and burial.
