A Callan cemetery is now ‘close to full’ and access to it is being limited, according to one local councillor.
Cllr Joe Lyons, chair of the Callan Thomastown Municipal District, raised the issue at the recent meeting of local councillors.
The issue affects Kilbride Cemetery, the main cemetery for the town.

The community facility is now “filling up fairly fast” Cllr Lyons warned, asking if there was any news on a possible extension.
Area Engineer Declan Murphy said the matter is being looked into by the council’s Environment Section and he will have to take it up with them. He confirmed he will come back to the local councillors with information.
Kilbride Cemetery includes burials dating back to the 1720s. It contains a number of Celtic crosses and the resting place of members of the Augustinian Order.
The cemetery is managed by Kilkenny County Council, with the most recent cemetery by-laws adopted last year.
It is one of 14 cemeteries managed by the county council, around the county.
