There is immense sadness in Castlecomer and further field following the passing of Michael Brooke.
In a statement just released from Castlecomer Discovery Park, the news of his passing is delivered 'with a heavy heart'.
"Michael was a founding member of the park and has been a board member since day one, giving enormous amounts of time and energy," the statement reads.
"His work ranged from creating job opportunities for young people in the area to creating a safe place for our community to walk, explore and relax.
"Whomever or whenever you met Michael it would not be long before he would be telling you about the park, and maybe twisting your arm to contribute or volunteer!
"He knew every inch of our wonderful woodland, as he walked it with his beloved dogs every day. This was his thinking time, time where he could consider the next big project. He was always driving on, never staying still and his legacy is a testament to that drive.
"The void that Michael will leave is hard to imagine, but we will be forever grateful and remember him for everything that he did and our greatest gift to him will be to ensure that our social enterprise continues to grow and prosper. Deepest condolences to all The Brooke Family.
"Our thoughts are with his family on this difficult day, but we remember him for his energy and unwavering dedication to making Castlecomer Discovery Park a world class adventure park and a shining example of what social enterprise can do to regenerate a local community."
Funeral arrangements will follow on RIP.ie however as a mark of respect the Discovery Park will be closed on Friday, September 29.
