The school were delighted to celebrate with families past and present, along with friends and neighbours of our school community, to celebrate the official opening of our new school building .
While situated in Tipperary, it was originally a private school set up by the Marchioness of Ormonde to educate their tenants children. It became a public school in 1891/2. Originally 59 pupils and one teacher.
Today, four teachers are in place and the school is holding its numbers as most rural schools in Ireland face a decline. Through the combined efforts of a Tipperary TD Mattie McGrath and a Kilkenny/Carlow TD John McGuinness, the BOM have hopefully secured the school for future generations.
“ At a time when working families are under pressure we have provided an after-school club and are soon to implement a breakfast club,” said Mary Coyne, BOM. “These facilities we hope will ensure our children grow and thrive in their community and ensure preservation of rural Ireland while still according them wonderful facilities for learning.
