Amidst the hive of pre-Christmas activities in Kilkenny some local schoolchildren found time to help others in their community.
The boys and girls of St Canice's Primary School, led by the pupils of third class, and supported by their teachers and families, held a food collection to make up hampers for the local St Vincent de Paul Society. The hampers were distributed throughout the city for Christmas.
December is always a busy time for the Society with many additional requests and needs, however the Society support people in need throughout the year, not just at Christmas time. The Society thank especially the students and school staff who organised the hamper appeal within the school. St Canice’s President Phil Hickey said the organisation appreciated the generosity.
Young people in Kilkenny are great supporters of St Vincent de Paul and students from the Loreto Secondary School also held a collection to make up hampers for Christmas distribution by the Society.
