Singing sensation to appear at major Kilkenny festival

Castlecomer Wellie Race Committee will honour one of their own with the announcement that Enya Cox Dempsey will be Race Personality on New Year’s Day 2025.

Talented Enya recently did her town, county and country proud in a fantastic performance in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest in Madrid.

The Community School student is blessed with many talents, she’s recently taken up playing the drums, and also enjoys rock ‘n’ roll and her favourite artists are Lana Del Rey, the Deftones and Metallica, and she loves singing along to Queen.

She is no stranger to Wellie Race Day in ’Comer having taken part in the Children’s Fancy Dress Competition over many years where she was always dressed to impress thanks to her late auntie Kathleen Salmon (née Dowling).

At the official launch of the Race in Bollard’s, chairman Michael ‘Macha’ Brennan was delighted to announce the positive news. Presentations were also made to two stalwarts of the Race, Dick Barrett (90) and Dick Preston (85) to mark their recent respective birthdays.
