The medieval surroundings of St Canice’s Cathedral will once again host a truly innovative event when Luxmuralis international art collective create an incredible feast of light and art.

For an unforgettable eight days from Sunday, December 14, the awe-inspiring 800-year-old St Canice’s Cathedral will be transformed into a breath-taking canvas, where audiences will be immersed in a 35 spellbinding minute loop of cutting-edge digital creativity.

Inspired by the guiding star of the Nativity, the installation leads audiences through a series of moving projections and a bespoke, cinematic soundscape.

Described as “the stained-glass windows of our time,” Luxmuralis has captivated over 1.2 million people at some of the world’s most iconic locations, including St. Paul’s Cathedral, Oxford University, Limburg Dom in Germany and The Tower of London and its Kilkenny presentation will be a first in Ireland.

Starlight runs nightly from December 14 to 21. Tickets for many of the time slots have sold out and many of the remaining tickets are expected to sell fast.

“This is an event that will be talked about for decades,” says festival manager Marian Flannery.

Luxmuralis is an internationally renowned artistic collaboration between sculptor Peter Walker and composer David Harper.

Together, they create large-scale, immersive fine art experiences to transform public, sacred, and historic spaces with cutting-edge visual storytelling.

The event is funded and supported by Kilkenny County Council, and hosted by St Canice’s Cathedral.
