The Yesteryear's series continued this week with an edition from 50 years ago dated December 15, 1967. 

The front page printed a prayer for ‘Cattle Disease’ - with a Foot and Mouth disease outbreak crippling Britain.

Kilkenny became the home to the country’s first ‘itinerant’ (Traveller) youth club.

Five nights a week, up to fifty young children came together at the old hall on Friary Street where everything from plays to hurling took place.

Staff had to tackle a fire at Statham’s Garage in the paint shop this week.

Castlecomer was declared the place in Ireland with the most perfect lawns as decided by the Tidy Towns judges and sponsored by Bord na Mona.

Up to 150 children attended a party at the local fire station this week, with some attending from ‘St Joseph’s Convent.’
