Garda investigation into knife attack at popular Kilkenny walk

Gardaí carrying out a search at the Linear Park following the attack

A garda investigation is underway following a serious assault at the Linear Park in the city yesterday evening.

The attack took place at approximately 6pm, when a man in his late forties was assaulted and injured at the popular recreational walkway.

The injured party was treated for his wounds, which are believed to have been caused by a knife, at St Luke's Hospital.

It is understood that the injured party has been discharged from hospital.

The area has been sealed off and a technical examination is taking place.

Gardaí remain at the scene where searches of the area are ongoing. A garda spokesman said that there will be ongoing foot patrols in the area as a result of the incident.

Gardaí are also canvassing CCTV footage from the area.

Anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area yesterday evening is asked to contact Kilkenny Garda Station on (056) 7775000.
