Cllr Eugene McGuinness pictured at his home this morning
Gardaí are investigating an incident at the home of a county councillor last night where windows and his van were smashed causing thousands of euro of damage.
Independent Councillor Eugene McGuinness was upstairs in his house at Bishop Birch Place in Kilkenny City at 8.10pm last night when he heard a crash.
"I was at home and was upstairs when I heard a crash, I thought it was an accident. I went downstairs and saw a shadow of a guy at the side panel," he said.
The county councillor went to the back of his home and after a few minutes he heard 'the shriek of tyres' and then it went quiet.
Thousands of euro of damage were caused to the property with several windows smashed and considerable damage caused to a van belonging to the local public representative.
"This is not an attack on Eugene McGuinness, it is an attack on democracy," he said.
