A driving ban of three years has been given to a motorist convicted of driving under the influence of cocaine.

On March 3, 2022, gardaí stopped a vehicle at Margaretsfield, on the Callan Road from Kilkenny City.
Driver of the car was Brendan Mannion, 1 Coolmine Boulevard, Blanchardstown, Dublin.

Gardaí suspected Mr Mannion was intoxicated and conducted an oral fluid test. This proved positive for cocaine.
Mr Mannion was arrested and taken to Kilkenny Garda Station where a doctor carried out a blood test. This was also positive for cocaine.

Mr Mannion was apologetic and embarrassed to be in court, his solicitor said.
Judge Geraldine Carthy convicted Mr Mannion. She imposed a fine of €300 and disqualified him from driving for one year.
