Gardai in Kilkenny are warning of a 'nasty' agricultural scam doing the rounds after being made aware of a recent incident in the north of the county.
"One of our gardaí in North Kilkenny was contacted by a savvy agricultural contractor/farmer," a garda spokesperson said.
"The man was in the process of negotiating a deal with a prominent machinery firm.
"He then rather annoyingly received emails purporting to be from this supplier pushing speedy payment of around €90k.
"He smelled a rat and rang the friendly salesman he'd spoken to previously who had no knowledge of this contact.
"Next with closer scrutiny he noticed that the firm in the scam email had an extra 's' on the name of the firm. The bank account was a UK one as well."
Gardaí stated that the incident is being investigated but added that 'this could have been very nasty'.
