Kilkenny woman Catriona Carey has reportedly been arrested over and "alleged €600,000 mortgage scam" according to today's Irish Independent.
The paper reports that the former Kilkenny hockey international "was arrested yesterday afternoon by appointment by officers from the Garda National Economic Crime Bureau (GNECB) and is being questioned about conspiracy to commit a serious offence, namely alleged deception.
"She is being held under Section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act at a south Dublin garda station and can be held for up to a week as detectives put around 20 separate criminal complaints to her." For the full report click here to go to Independent.ie
In a statement to the Kilkenny People, An Garda Siochána said: "Gardaí from the Garda National Economic Crime Bureau (GNECB) investigating a number of reports of fraud relating to the activities of an asset management company have arrested a woman in her 40s as part of this investigation. She is currently detained at a Garda Station in South Dublin under the provisions of Section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act 2007."
