Brothers charged with Christmas Day offences sent for trial in Kilkenny

Two brothers charged with a series of offences on Christmas Day have been sent forward to Kilkenny Circuit Court for trial.

Colin and Glen Murphy, both of 7 Kyleshal, Raheendoran, Co Carlow, appeared before Kilkenny District Court where they were presented with a book of evidence in the case by Garda John O’Halloran.

State Solicitor Gerry Meaney said the Director of Public Prosecutions had directed the matter be sent forward to the next sitting of Kilkenny Circuit Court, commencing on May 2.

Judge Geraldine Carthy sent the cases forward for trial.

Legal aid was granted and both men were remanded in custody. 

Colin Murphy was remanded in custody with consent to bail from the High Court. He is charged with two counts of assault causing harm at Ballygurteen, Paulstown, on December 25, 2022. He is also  charged with three counts of causing criminal damage, with producing an article capable of inflicting injury, and the unauthorised taking of a vehicle from Baunreagh, Old Leighlin, all on December 25 last.

Glen Murphy is charged with two counts of assault causing harm, at Ballygurteen, Castlewarren, on December 25. He is also charged with arson at Ballygurteen, two counts of criminal damage, and the unauthorised taking of a vehicle from Baunreagh.
