A man has been charged with assault causing harm, and other charges, following an incident at the post office in the centre of Kilkenny City.

Stephen Clifford, 4 Emmet Street, Kilkenny, is charged with one count of robbery, one count of assault causing harm and one count of producing an article capable of inflicting serious injury while committing or appearing to be about to commit an offence.

All charges related to an incident on September 12, 2023, at An Post, High Street Kilkenny.

He appeared before Kilkenny District Court via video link.

Solicitor Chris Hogan said his client had appeared in court previously in Carlow when he had been remanded in custody. He said he understood a new charge was to be put to his client and asked that he be produced in court.

Sergeant Morgan O’Connor said directions in the case are outstanding, as it is a very recent matter.

Judge Geraldine Carthy adjourned the matter to the following week and ordered Mr Clifford be produced in court for the new charge and DPP directions.
